Music & Liturgy

There are many ways to become part of the beautiful liturgical tradition here at Assumption. The Adult Choir sings a varied repertoire every Sunday. Rehearsals are held weekly from September through May. The Contemporary Choir celebrates with a modern selection of songs. Look for them September-May at every other Saturday evening Mass. The Funeral Choir provides an indispensable service. This adult choir is called upon when needed and sings a varied repertoire. Rehearsals are immediately prior to the funeral service. For the Spanish Mass, there is an Adult Choir that sings for the Saturday evening Mass, and a Children’s’ Choir that sings for Sunday’s Spanish Mass. Except for the funeral choir, rehersals for all choirs are held weekly.

Whether you play solo or as part of an ensemble, we welcome your Músical gifts. Instrumentalists include guitar, woodwind, strings, brass, and keyboards. If the instrument is your voice, Cantors lead the assembly in song twice per month throughout the year as well as for funerals.

Lectors are scheduled to read the Old and New Testament at Mass approximately once per month. Children’s Liturgy of the Word, celebrated at Sunday Mass, lets children ages 5-12 enjoy their own experience of the Gospel and Homily, October
through April.

Altar Servers offer valuable assistance to the priest during Mass. Boys and girls are eligible to serve after they have made their First Communion.

Eucharistic Ministers assist the priest in distributing Holy Communion during Mass. Ushers & Greeters help take up the collection, distribute worship aids before Mass and pass out bulletins. Church Environment Committee members make sure that the church interior is in good order, plants are watered and decor properly corresponds to the liturgical seasons.

Sacristans set out the sacred vessels, books, and purificators before Mass. On Monday and Tuesdays, Lay Presides conduct Word and Communion services, or on other occasions when the priest cannot be present to celebrate Mass.
