Human beings are created to live their lives in unity with other human beings because they come from God who is a trinity of persons - Father, Son and Holy Spirit - who continually love each other. We are made in God’s image and are created to form unity among each other by loving one another as God loves us. This unity can also be called community. We can think of how the early Christians immediately began organizing their lives in community, “They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of the bread and to the prayers.”
The life of community is a calling that comes from experiencing God’s love for us. God first shares his life with us, especially through his Son, and we are called to respond by giving of ourselves.
We are called to think of our lives as belonging to each other, of sharing our gifts with each other, and of being responsible to take care of each other. Today, we have a unique opportunity to experience Christian community among our three parishes. The Holy Spirit has called us forth to work together to give glory to God.
